We're already making progress, and we have much more to do.
If you live or work in Pacoima or Sun Valley, you know we have polluted air and lots of hot days when the sun's rays are harsh. You've probably yearned for more parks, streets that are safer for walkers and cyclists, and access to new technologies like charging stations for electric cars.
What you might not know (yet) is that your neighbors are actively working to make Pacoima and Sun Valley healthier and resilient – working for safe streets, clean air, cool shade and equitable opportunity.
Get InvolvedWe're bringing nearly $50 million into our community.
The state of California offers grants to communities that are taking action to tackle their biggest challenges.
Green Together Collaborative won a $23 million grant from California Strategic Growth Council's Transformative Climate Communities Program to invest in Pacoima and Sun Valley. Plus, we're able to leverage that grant to expand the impact of our work even more – bringing the total invested in our community to nearly $50 million over the next several years.
Our partner organizations have been advocating for safer, healthier and more resilient neighborhoods for years.
- Deep roots in Pacoima and Sun Valley
- History of successful engagement with community members
- Collaboration among multiple organizations already familiar to the community and each other
- Creative action plan, produced with direct help from people who live and work here
We're the first of our kind to get this grant.
We're the first public/private collaborative to be awarded this type of grant. We're putting that money to work with projects designed in collaboration with community members to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the local economy and improve public health.
Our approach is both expansive and specific.
Our vision is to build a safe, healthy, inclusive, equitable, climate-resilient community for future generations. Progress is possible when we recognize that so many of our community's challenges intersect and overlap – and when we tackle those challenges together:
- Solar, cool roofs and electric vehicle charging stations boost energy efficiency.
- Trees and parks shield pedestrians and cyclists from harsh sun.
- Accessible transit and walkable streets make it easier to get to work, school or play.
- Training in solar and urban forestry develops skills for jobs of the future.
Each partner specializes in one or more of these priorities. We formed this alliance because we achieve more when we collaborate.
"I am the third of five generations who have lived in Pacoima, so this is very heartfelt for me. I'm looking forward to this being our legacy for our future, for my children, my grandchildren, and my great-grandchildren."
